Top Shelf Installations

Although it had only been just over a year since the business started, Top Shelf Installations, based in Sumas, has made a profound impact in the Community, as well as with the lives of its partners: Barb, Charles, John and Jeffery, all Sumas Members.

Top Shelf Installations specializes in the installation of all types of pallet racking, including push back racking systems, drive-in racking, cantilever, and steel mezzanines.  With a micro loan from Stó:lō Community Futures to purchase tools, safety equipment and to repair and maintain company vehicles, Top Shelf has quickly expanded from the original five owners, to a crew of 26.  The success of the business has led to increased skilled workforce, mainly from Sumas.

Top Shelf works hard to ensure customer satisfaction, reliability, and affordable pricing, by building trust and confidence with their customers.  This has led to repeat business from their existing client contract work.  The business utilizes products that will reduce maintenance costs over the long-term, improve safety and increase the system’s service life.

The decision to create the business is a familiar tale to Stó:lō Community Futures.  In 2017, Charles met with Staff and discussed that he was currently doing installation work for another organization, and because of his experience, knew how the business was run and knew what it took to be successful.  With the support of his partners, and financial support of Stó:lō Community Futures, Top Shelf Installations started small and didn’t look back.  As with any business, there has been a tremendous amount of work, to the point of exhaustion (even for the young guys!). The team at Top Shelf has worked together, to sustainably expand the business, grow and develop with the support of each other and their Community, to be a successful Indigenous business.
